THE INDIGENOUS INDICA

The Tata Indica was a popular hatchback car produced by Tata Motors in India. It was the first Indian hatchback to feature a diesel engine. It marked a significant milestone in the Indian automotive industry. Prior to the Indica, Tata Motors had primarily produced station wagons and SUVs, making the Indica their first passenger hatchback. The car came with a 1396 cc diesel engine and a five-speed manual transmission. 
It offered comfortable interiors, good fuel economy, and reliable after-sales service. 
The Tata Indica was designed as a compact hatchback with a focus on affordability and practicality.  The Indica was initially launched with a 1.4-liter diesel engine, which was later upgraded to a 1.4-liter turbocharged diesel engine. Apart from the LS and LX variants, there were other variants like the V2, Vista, and eV2 introduced over the years. The Indica faced competition from other hatchbacks like the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Santro, and Chevrolet Beat. It’s fair to say that the Indica was the backbone of Tata Motors’ passenger car division with the multiple variants and bodystyles it spawned, and even today, the Indica’s legacy can be seen in the popular  Tiago and Tigor that are underpinned by the platform that has its roots in the Indica. 

 Tata Motors discontinued the Indica in 2018 due to declining sales and the need to focus on newer models. Despite its discontinuation, the Indica remains a nostalgic symbol for many Indian car enthusiasts.

THE PRESTIGIOUS PADMINI

The Padmini, also known as the Premier Padmini, was an iconic car model manufactured by Premier Automobiles Limited in India. Initially marketed as the  Fiat 1100 Delight , it was later rebranded as the  Premier Padmini  from 1974 onward.    Many celebrities, including Rajnikanth, Mammootty, and Aamir Khan, owned a Premier Padmini during its prime years.  Compared to the Hindustan Ambassador , It looked more modern, was more fuel-efficient and was very easy to drive.  By the early 1980s, It's engine power was reduced to 42 bhp (31 kW) (at 5,000 rpm) with a modified carburettor to make it more fuel efficient. THE MARUTI 800

The  Maruti Suzuki 800  was an iconic city car manufactured by Maruti Suzuki in India from 1983 to 2014.   The first generation (SS80) was based on the 1979  Suzuki Alto  and had an 800 cc F8B engine.  Widely regarded as the most influential automobile in India, about 2.87 million 800s were produced during its course of which 2.66 million were sold in India itself.  Produced for 31 years, Maruti 800 remained the second longest production car in India, next only to  Hindustan Ambassador .  The Maruti 800 remained the best-selling car in India until 2004 when the Maruti Suzuki Alto took over that title.  It was also exported to several countries in South Asia, including Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.
